Full steam ahead for our new home

It’s all hands on deck as the Manchester Evening News prepares to move to a new home in April 2006.

The M.E.N. has signed a 22-year lease on a state-of-the-art office complex on the Spinningfields business district.

Sir Robert Phillis, chief executive of parent company the Guardian Media Group, trowled the last section of the lower basement slab in a ceremony earlier today. The new building in Hardman Street is just metres away from the present M.E.N. headquarters in Deansgate.

It will also house the northern operation of the Guardian, magazine publishers Diverse Media and GMG Regional Digital, which controls www.manchesteronline.co.uk , the region’s best website.
