Spinningfields becomes home to one of the largest cranes
Spinningfields is home to one of the largest cranes in the country following the erection of a 200 ton mobile crane, known as TC2.
It took more than five days and several heavy weight cranes to piece together the TC2 which now towers over Manchester city centre at an impressive height of approx 109.5m. Upon completion, the TC2 crane will have an overall free standing height of 122.0m, 109.5m under the hook, 10metres higher than TC1 – previously the highest crane in Manchester also erected on the same site.
Initially, the crane was due to be on site a week earlier but due to strong winds the timetable was put back.
The crane will be used in the construction work of the new Civil Justice Centre (CJC) which forms part of the Spinningfields development.
